The history of the School goes as far back as 1960 when the Courses for Specialists Sent on a mission abroad were set up. The number of learners was limited to 100-120 people per year. They were mainly civil servants and the main objective was to prepare them for work and study visits abroad.
At present the School of Continuing Education offers four foreign languages to study: English, German, French and Spanish.
The educational modules are as follows:
· English for beginners (4 terms, 980 hours)
· English for false beginners (4 terms, 840 hours)
· German for beginners (4 terms, 980 hours)
· German for false beginners (4 terms, 840 hours)
· French for false beginners (4 terms, 840 hours)
· Spanish for false beginners (4 terms, 840 hours)
· Advanced English (120 hours, 15 weeks)
· Advanced German (120 hours, 15 weeks)
· Advanced French (120 hours, 15 weeks)
· English, German, French for International Business Communication (144 hours, 12 weeks).
Annual enrollment is 450-500 persons: civil servants, business people, diplomats and other qualified specialists. The maximum amount of students in a group is 10-12.
The faculty are carrying out research on intensive teaching methods and helping adults learn. In May 1999 the conference "Teaching Foreign Languages to Adults: Problems and Perspectives" was held at MSLU which proved a great interest in the problem.
Since May 2001 the Club of the School's graduates (four language departments) has successfully functioned helping the graduates to master foreign language skills.
School of Continuing Education sees its mission - in providing excellent language services to professionals in Minsk, thus contributing to the integration of the Republic of Belarus into the international community;
- in advancing the idea of life-long language learning and conducting collaborative state-of-the-art research on teaching foreign languages to adults.
