The Division of Russian as a Foreign Language offers courses of Russian to Foreign Students
The Division of Russian as a Foreign Language at Minsk State Linguistic University was established in 1979. Since then over 2000 students from more than 40 countries have studied different programs of Russian.
The Division of Russian as a Foreign Language has an excellent reputation due to the exceptionally high professional skills of its faculty members.
The Division has been constantly enhancing its expertise in the sphere of education and has been looking for new forms of international cooperation.
Students from different foreign countries of the world are enrolled in the Russian Language programs. Students are offered short-term and long-term Russian Language courses. There is also a Russian Preparatory course, which trains foreign students for their further education at different Universities of Belarus and Russia.
The Russian Language Courses
Conversation classes are taught by using traditional methods alongside with new teaching strategies and are a practical means of studying everyday language. Students are involved in activities, enabling them to speak naturally and spontaneously.
There are language courses for beginners, intermediate and advanced students. The students enrolled may be offered intensive Russian Language courses as well as individual classes.
Student groups are formed according to the level of the Russian Language skills. There is also an opportunity to study the Belarussian Language and Literature.
Foreign students are taught on the contractual fee-paying basis. Students are enrolled on the basis of the contract, which guarantees educational services, text-books and access to MSLU library, reading rooms, laboratories, videohalls, computer classrooms.
The provision of places in the dormitory is determined during preceding correspondence. Accommodation facilities (3 students in a room) are chargeable.
Graduates will be given a certificate.
Tuition Fees
If attended in a group:
- 1-month's course ― US $250 (20 academic hours a week);
- 2-month's course ― US $500 (20 academic hours a week);
- 3-month's course ― US $750 (20 academic hours a week);
- 5-month's course ― US $1200 (20 academic hours a week);
- 10-month's course ― US $1700 (20 academic hours a week).
The fee for a one-month's individual course:
- US $560 a month (20 academic hours a week).
The minimal term of the Russian Language Course is 2 weeks.

Notes:
1. Classes start on the first day of the abovementioned periods of study.
2. Students’ arrival is carried out during the first days of the group study.
3. Closing date of document submission is 1 month before the beginning of group study.
Preparatory course programme
The Preparatory course programme allows students to continue their education at the MSLU basic Schools: Interpreters' School, Teacher Training Schools, School of Intercultural Communication, as well as at other higher educational establishments of Belarus and Russia.
The students of the Preparatory Department are also taught on the contractual fee-paying basis. They are enrolled in pursuance of the contract, which guarantees education services, textbooks and access to MSLU library, reading rooms, laboratories, videohalls and computer classrooms.
The provision of places in the dormitory is determined during preceding correspondence. Accommodation facilities (3 students in a room) are chargeable.
No scholarships are given.
Graduates will be given a certificate.
The fee for the Preparatory course programme is
- US $1300 for a 10-month's period.
- starting from September 01.
- The deadline for applications is October 15.
Activities
The foreign citizens studying at MSLU are offered various extracurricular activities: trips to museums, exhibitions, art galleries; visiting theatres, opera, cinema, discos, etc.; various tourist excursions (tours of the city and its surroundings, trips to numerous monuments and places of interest in Minsk and in other cities of the former USSR). There are a lot of fitness and sport complexes, water pools in the centre of Minsk (where it University itself is situated). MSLU students are always welcome there.
Enrollment Requirements
To become a student of the Division of Russian as a Foreign Language, one needs to obtain an entry visa to the Republic of Belarus via a local (or the nearest to your country) Belarussian embassy or consulate after receiving an official invitation from the University. To receive such an invitation, one needs to send to the MSLU a letter of inquiry containing the following personal data:
- application (stating your level of Russian, the term of study and the name of the establishment issuing a visa); (download the application form in English, in Russian)
- a copy of your passport (name, surname, year and place of birth, passport number and its validity);
- a notarized copy of the translation of a national passport into Russian (Belarussian) language (name, surname, year and place of birth, passport number and its validity);
- a notarized copy of the document about education (a high-school certificate is obligatory for the Preparatory Department programme);
- a notarized translation of the document about education into Russian or Belarussian languages). (The original with a notarized translation attached is to be submitted by the student upon his arrival in Belarus.);
- a medical certificate from any medical centre or a family doctor about the state of the health;
Documents required for an invitation are accepted not earlier than 3 months before the beginning of the course.
The deadline for enrollment is 1 month before the beginning of the course.
Before the commencement of studies, the student is required
- to get medical insurance from one of the state insurance companies (insurance can be arranged through the University);
- to get registration in Minsk at the place of residence. Documents required for registration are applied to the International Department of MSLU within 3 days upon arrival;
- to pass a medical check-up at the Student's Hospital. Medical services are rendered on the fee-paying basis. Medical certificate from the country of student's arrival is necessary for the medical check-up. If the duration of the stay in Minsk is no longer than 3 months, a student can submit a medical check-up certificate with obligatory X-ray check-up.
- tuition payment is made upon arrival and signing the contract with MSLU.
All the travelling expenses are covered by the student.
About Minsk
Minsk is the capital of the Republic of Belarus. Not only can one study here, but also become more acquainted with a thousand year history of the city and the culture of Belarus. In Minsk there are many parks, squares, museums, galleries, concert halls and theaters. The most famous theater is the National Academic Bolshoi Theater of Opera and Ballet, which holds the second highest rating after the famous Moscow Bolshoi Theater among the Countries of the former USSR.
There are a number of memorials and tourist attractions not far from Minsk, which also can be visited within a short period of time. Tourist excursions also allow one to become acquainted with other cities of Belarus, each of which has its own notable sights. The "drawing card" of Vitebsk, the birth place of Marc Chagall, is his home which is a museum. Brest's "drawing card" is the memorial complex "Brest Fortress of Heroes". Gomel is famous for its palace and park complex of the 18th ―19th centuries, etc.
Minsk is one of the cleanest and greenest cities of Europe. The current population of the capital is 2 million inhabitants, but a well-developed system of public transport, which includes a subway, allows one to quickly get to any point of the city.
