The Department of Russian as a Foreign Language

Teachers from the Russian Language Department work for the School of Russian as a Foreign Language.

The Department consists of 14 teachers including two associate professors (one of them has a Ph.D. degree), and 11 lecturers.

The Russian Language Department's curriculum represents a clear-cut outline of the whole teaching process of the School. Groups of both beginners and advanced learners during the 10-month-long course receive 740 contact hours(including training in phonetics, grammar, oral practice, written tests and essays, regular control, individual reading and newspaper analysis). The 2nd term marks the beginning of introduction to a specialty of choice: Linguistics, Culture Study, Russian Literature,

Country Studies amounting to 38 hours. All the subjects are elaborated according to the programs for beginners and advanced learners. They also meet all the requirements set by the Ministry of Education of Belarus and MSLU. Among the teaching aids utilized by the School are topical audio recordings, audio lessons from Russian Language text-books, grammar exercises, interactive and practical exercises developed by the teachers of the Department, numerous videos, slides and film strips. All the educational work is performed by the two sections of the Russian Language Department. The section for advanced learners and the section for beginners prepare the necessary supply of educational materials, and supplement them with new study guides. Teachers' reports on modern linguistics and current methods of teaching Russian as a foreign language are regularly made and discussed at the staff meetings.

One of the priorities of the Department is the individual approach to educational activities including aesthetic education, enhancement of background knowledge about the country, current political developments in Russia and Belarus, learning more about Belarusian history, traditions and culture. To that end, special study trips to museums on Belarusian history and culture, and different Minsk exhibitions are arranged. While studying the Russian language, foreign students grow to love and respect other peoples and their cultures.
