Information Centres

The Center for the Belarusian language and Culture was founded in May, 2001. The activities of the Center are carried out with the active participation of the department of the Belarusian language and literature, the department of the history of Belarus, the department of culture studies. The library of the Center stocks a rich collection of books on different aspects of the Belarusian history, life, science. The Center plays a very important educational role in the academic life of the University.
The center is a place where students meet with the outstanding Belarusian writers, painters, scientists. Round-table discussions, scientific conferences and book presentations are regularly carried out here. The Center contributes a lot to the promotion of Belarusian history, culture, traditions.


In 1997, the Center for the Spanish Language and Culture was founded as part of the School. It is funded and supported by Granada University and the Embassy of Spain in Moscow and aims to promote Spanish in the Republic of Belarus. The library of the Center stocks a unique collection of books on different aspects of life and the world of the peoples of Spain and Latin America. The most popular events among the faculty members and students of the School are exhibitions, conferences, "round table" discussions, meetings / seminars with teachers of Spanish, annual "Spanish Cafe" meetings which preserve and develop the traditions of the school.

On February 18, 2002 there was an opening ceremony of the Turkish Language and Culture Center in Minsk State Linguistic University. This event is extremely significant for the relations between the Republic of Belarus and the Turkish Republic. Recently we celebrated the 10th anniversary of establishing the diplomatic relations between the two countries Minsk State Linguistic University was the first educational institution to offer the Turkish language as a speciality in 1994. It was first studied as a 3rd foreign language and later on as a 2nd foreign language. In 2000 the study of the Turkish language as the major foreign language was introduced. More than 100 specialists have been trained in this area since then. Their skills have been in great demand by various branches of national economy.
At the moment there are about 100 students in the English, French and Interpreters' departments studying the Turkish language. Recently the study of the Turkish language as a foreign language has been introduced at other higher educational institutions of Belarus.


Due to the increase in the number of students studying the Turkish language, the Republic of Belarus established a Resource Center to give students a possibility to use original literature, to improve their knowledge, to get acquainted with Turkey's rich cultural heritage. Its objectives are not only to provide a possibility to use literature on Turkish studies and linguistic issues, but also to organize meetings with the Turkish intelligentsia, as well as to hold various kinds of seminars, conferences and round-table discussions.
The Center presents a wide variety of literature on linguistics, theory of literature, history, Turkish studies, and fiction. There are audio and video materials available on linguistic and cultural topics. The Center is equipped with modern computers making it possible to browse the INTERNET in the Turkish language, and with satellite equipment which makes it possible to receive television channels from Turkey day and night. In the future, on the basis of the Center teaching materials will be made and teaching programs for various educational purposes will be worked out.
The Center is expected to become an educational, scientific, methodological and cultural body for the Turkish studies in the Republic of Belarus.

The ceremony of opening the Chinese Language and Culture Center took place on February 15, 2002, in Minsk State Linguistic University. The ceremony was attended by Mrs. Wu Xiaoqui, Chinese Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary in Belarus.
The Chinese language has been studied in Belarus for over 10 years. Minsk State Linguistic University and Belarusian State University promote the development of the Chinese language schools. In the past decade, the teaching staff has developed various educational programmes, training aids, information and reference literature. Thanks to the assistance of the Chinese Embassy in Belarus, that has provided the universities with the teaching staff as well as literature, Minsk State Linguistic University and Belarusian State University have made first steps toward the establishment of the linguistic scientific school of sinology. The opening of the Chinese Language Center will further the development of the school.

The Center houses a unique collection of books on linguistics, literary criticism, history, regional geography, art; precious reference books (encyclopaedias and dictionaries) as well as fiction books in Chinese.
There are also various audio and video cassettes. The Center is well-equipped with computers which give an opportunity to work with hieroglyphic characters. The satellite antenna and video ensure direct broadcasting of Chinese TV programmes. The Center will become the basis for study and research activity as well as for meetings with the representatives of Chinese culture.
