The Key Research Lines and Scientific Trends in the MSLU
The faculty, under- and postgraduate students of the university conduct systematic research along the following priority lines: 1. The systemic and structural research, the communicative and functional research and the cognitive and psychological research of languages a) the systemic and structural analysis of languages; b) the communicative and functional description of languages; c) the cognitive and psycholinguistic description of languages; d) the formalised descriptions of languages; e) applied linguistic research of languages.

5. The Development of an Effective System of Teaching Foreign Languages in the Republic of Belarus (Continuous Training) a) the development of educational standards; b) designing national text-books for school and University level, creation of didactic materials for teaching foreign languages; c) new technologies of teaching foreign languages (satellite television, audiovizual programs, computer classes, etc.); d) foreign languages distance training; e) the national foreign languages testing system for general education secondary school graduates and high school undergraduates; f ) self-training for foreign languages; g) updating the professional standards of the teaching staff;
6. The World's Educational Trends Studies a) foreign didactic orientations; b) the internationalisation in education, its impact on education in Belarus; c) the language educational policy in different countries; d) aspects of the personality development by means of language education.
7. The National History of Belarus: from Older to Modern Times a) Belarus on the map of Europe (historical analysis); b) Belarus at the turn of the century (the geostrategical, socio-political and culturological aspects). In the process of its development, the university has set up a number of scientific pedagogical schools that play an important role in training specialists with the highest qualification (Candidates and Doctors of Science).
Today, four internationally recognized scientific pedagogical schools function at the university: a) Minsk phonetic school; b) Belarusian school of methods of teaching foreign languages; c) the scientific pedagogical school of functional linguistics; d) the scientific pedagogical school on text organisation.
